The coronavirus is surging out of control across the country, and more than 121,000 cases were reported on Thursday, Nov 5. In 43 states, new cases rose steadily higher. To many Americans, the pandemic’s feels relentless.

As the country with the most Covid-19 cases with almost 10,000,000 cases and counting, with at least 235,300 coronavirus deaths. Over the past week, there has been an average of 96,231 cases per day and 1,108 new coronavirus deaths, an increase of 54 percent from the average two weeks earlier.

Case numbers in the United States have been spiking for weeks. Weekly infection reports reached record levels in more than half the country in early November. As conditions worsened and winter approached, some governors in the Northeast issued stay-at-home advisories.

The coronavirus has moved across the country in distinct phases, devastating one region, in both rural counties and major cities, infections continued rising to fearsome new levels with no end in sight.

In late February, there were just a few dozen known cases in the United States, most of them linked to travel. But by summer, the virus had torn through every state, infecting more people than the combined populations of Connecticut and Oklahoma. And in the fall, the national death toll exceeded 235,000, more than the population of Richmond, Va.
